Facebook is a social network that has gained immense popularity in the past several years. In the early years Facebook terms of service explicitly stated doing business and selling products or services on Facebook were strictly forbidden. When Facebook discovered profiles that were for business they promptly shut down the account. Due to user requests Facebook offers “Pages.” These can be used by businesses to share information about their company. For example, Starbucks coffee has a Facebook fan page with over 10,900,000 fans.
What are Pages in Facebook?
Pages are Facebook’s answer to the many requests they received for business to be able to connect on Facebook. As an entrepreneur you can use Facebook’s markup language to design a page that matches your business’s brand. You can add your logo, colors, images, etc. You are allowed to run promotions, post coupons, and run contests just to name a few things. Keep in mind the primary purpose for your business to develop a page is so that you can engage with your customers.
People who like your business can subscribe to your page. When they subscribe they become a fan. You can allow them to post comments, share photos, and interact. Building a fan base is advantageous to your business because you have insight into your customers. Based on customer interactions on your page you can tailor other marketing efforts so they appeal to your target market. You can monitor site visits and visitor statistics.
You can also increase your presence on Google search results. Facebook Pages are indexed on search engines. This is another key benefit especially for managing your brand. When developing your fan page check out the requirements for obtaining a customized URL. Facebook often changes these requirements during updates and based on user feedback so that is why I don’t have the exact figure for you here. A customized URL allows you to increase your SEO with keywords you are using in your marketing efforts. It also gives fans an easier address to remember.
What are Groups in Facebook?
Prior to Facebook launching pages they allowed groups. The original intent was so that people with like interests could connect with each other. When groups started Facebook was still strict about not being able to directly market to Facebook users. Although groups allow group members to interact they do not have quite the participation pages have.
