What is an “Opt-in page?” In terms of email marketing, opt-in means people sign up for your newsletter. They are opting to receive your email and they are giving you permission to add their email address to your subscriber list.
What are the elements of a successful opt-in page?
- Branding: Use the logo, colors, images, etc that are the same as your website. You want your overall branding to be consistent. You also want visitors to your site to recognize and identify the page they landed on is in fact the page they were expecting.
- Headline: You need an attention grabbing headline. Write something that is short and sweet. You want the headline to pique the reader’s interest.
- Introduction: A short introduction quickly informs visitors why you want them to join your email list. Outline the benefits they will receive by being on your list. The most successful format is to list the benefits in a bullet format. The information is quicker for people to read.
- Testimonials: By sharing the firsthand experience of your clients or customers on your opt-in page you reassure the visitor. If other people are using your product or service then publishing their feedback is similar to them giving a recommendation to your site visitor.
- Subscription Form: I have visited opt-in pages where the entrepreneur is trying to capture a lot of data about their target market. The form may ask for a full name, contact information, interests, etc. Most Internet users do not want to invest the amount of time it takes to fill out such a long form especially if they are signing up to receive a newsletter. Keep your form simple. As simple as ask for their name and email address. You can acquire additional information later.
